Family Life Education
Preparing Leaders Who Strengthen Families
Family Life Education is a broad, interdisciplinary field that equips students to understand and strengthen individuals and families across the lifespan. Drawing from psychology, education, sociology, communication, theology, law, economics, and home management, the program provides a solid foundation in human development, family systems, and healthy interpersonal relationships. This major is built around the ten content areas required for national certification, preparing students with both the academic depth and practical insight needed to support families in diverse contexts. The College is also preparing to apply for program approval through the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), which will streamline the path toward becoming a Certified Family Life Educator.
Family life educators serve in a wide range of settings, reflecting the versatility and real-world relevance of this degree. Graduates may find roles in church family ministries, community service agencies, foster care programs, public health clinics, senior centers, hospitals, day care centers, group homes, nursing homes, and mental health organizations. Opportunities also extend to government agencies, educational institutions, parks and recreation departments, food assistance programs, and correctional settings. This major prepares students to engage meaningfully wherever families need support, guidance, and compassionate care.
