Social Science
Understanding People, Culture, and Society
The Social Science major at Great Lakes Christian College explores how people think, live, and interact within families, communities, and cultures. Drawing from disciplines such as economics, political science, history, psychology, and sociology, this program helps students develop a deeper understanding of human nature and social systems. By studying how societies function and why people behave the way they do, students gain the tools to analyze and address a wide range of social, cultural, and political issues through a thoughtful, informed lens.
This major is an excellent fit for students pursuing careers in social work, counseling, law, politics, education, or any vocation that involves serving people and strengthening communities. Students learn to appreciate the diversity of social structures around the world, understand how a Christian worldview shapes the study of society, and integrate biblical and theological insights with social science research. Graduates are equipped to engage the world with wisdom, compassion, and a clear sense of purpose—using social science to evangelize, serve, and make meaningful change.
