Student Ministry Pastor

Position: Student Ministry Pastor
Reports To: Lead Pastor/Elders
Ministry Area: Student Ministry (Grades 6–12) & College-aged adults at LCC

 

Position Overview

The Student Ministry Pastor provides leadership and discipleship for middle and high school students, helping them grow into committed followers of Jesus Christ. This role focuses on biblical teaching, relational discipleship, leadership development (both personal and in volunteers), and creating engaging environments where students can grow in faith and community. The Student Ministry Pastor works alongside church staff, volunteers, and parents to cultivate a vibrant ministry that integrates students into the life and mission of the church. The Student Ministry Pastor will also help develop and implement a strong, discipleship focused young adult (college-age to 25) ministry.

 

Key Responsibilities

Discipleship & Teaching

Prepare and teach biblical content for student gatherings.

Develop a culture of discipleship (becoming more like Christ in character and competency) and disciple-making (walking with others to become more like Christ).

Partner with and equip parents to be the primary disciple-maker for their students. Be praying for parents, students, and families.

Model discipleship by mentoring students; this can be through student leadership, small groups, and relational ministry or service opportunities.

Will be responsible to disciple other adult leaders into disciple-makers as they work directly with students.

 

Student Engagement

Build relationships with middle and high school students by investing in their lives outside of programming times (Sunday morning, Sunday evening, etc.)

Provide spiritual guidance, mentorship, and pastoral care.

Connect with students in church, school, and community environments.

Invite families, leaders, and students into your own life experiences as appropriate.

 

Leadership Development

Recruit, train, and equip adult leaders (i.e. small group leaders, worship team, etc.).

Hold regular leader meetings (once per month) to train, equip, and build relationships within the team of leaders.

Develop and mentor student leaders in accordance with their gifting, abilities and passions.

Lead and rehearse with student worship team (or recruit a leader if you don’t have musical abilities).

Train leaders to be disciple-makers by providing encouragement, feedback, and discipline for as needed.

Ministry Programming

Plan and execute student ministry gatherings and events.

Lead and participate in camps, retreats, conferences, and mission trips. Utilizing these events to supplement the disciple-making process.

Coordinate serving opportunities for students in various ways (within LCC, in the community, and the world).

Coordinate other leaders to preach and teach when necessary.

Give oversight and vision on the content to be taught to students in line with the Church’s overall direction.

 

Administration & Communication

Manage ministry communications with students, parents, leaders, and staff via different mediums or platforms (phone calls, text messages, social media posts, etc.)

Actively and responsibly manage the fiscal budget for the student ministry.

Plan, schedule, organize, and delegate (if needed) tasks related to student ministry.

 

Church Participation

Will be a part of the pastoral on-call staff rotation. Must be able and willing to make pastoral visits in homes, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.

Participate in a life group for your personal spiritual growth and community.

May have the opportunity to preach in main services when needed or desired.

Act as a service host, lead a communion meditation when needed.

Work closely with preschool, children, and adult ministries in planning activities.

 

Accountability

The Student Minister reports directly to the Lead Pastor and is accountable to the elders of LCC.

 

Qualifications

Evidence of a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and obedience to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Agreement with the church’s doctrinal beliefs and mission.

A passion for discipling students and developing leaders.

Strong teaching, relational, and leadership skills.

Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, or a related field preferred.

Experience working with students in a ministry context preferred.
