Open Position:
Family Life Education Professor (part-time)
Great Lakes Christian College (Lansing, MI) is seeking qualified applications for a part-time on-campus Family Life Education professor. Employment will begin either July 1, 2026 or January 1, 2027 depending on the candidate’s availability. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Family Life Education is an interdisciplinary field of study that draws from various disciplines such as psychology, education, sociology, Communication, law and public policy, economics, and home management. It provides an understanding of human development, family systems, and interpersonal relationships. Graduates are equipped to provide instruction and guidance to others in the areas of marriage, parenting, family dynamics, and human relations.
Qualifications
- Candidates must have at least a master’s degree in Family Life Education or a closely related field.
- Preference will be given to a candidate who is already certified as a Family Life Educator. Otherwise, he or she will be encouraged to seek certification with the Nation Council on Family Relations.
- Candidates must be able to teach a variety of Family Life Education courses such as Marriage & Family, Parent Education & Guidance, Family Resource Management, Methods of Family Life Education, and Family Law & Public Policy.
- Candidates must demonstrate eagerness to grow GLCC’s Family Life Education program.
- Candidates must possess the desire and ability to teach effectively, mentor young adults, work well with a team, and improve as a teacher and course developer.
Responsibilities
- Role specific responsibilities include teaching, mentoring, advising, assessing, and building the Family Life Education program.
- GLCC’s plan is to build this program to the point where we can hire a full-time professor to anchor the program.
