Give to Great Lakes Christian College

Support Our Mission With Confidence

We know that there are many worthy organizations you could support with the resources that God has given you, but you are here because you believe in our mission, “to prepare students to be servant-leaders in the church and world.”

When you, as well as other individuals, churches, and organizations, choose to invest in our mission, students are provided an affordable education from quality faculty in a supportive environment. They are trained intellectually, spiritually, and personally to be Kingdom workers in whatever career field they choose to pursue.

Ways to Make an Impact

Give Online

Give Online securely and conveniently using our online form. You can set up a one-time or recurring gift using your credit card or by transferring your gift directly from your bank account.

Checks

Many of our supporters regularly mail us checks. If you would prefer this option, you can send your gifts to “Great Lakes Christian College, 6211 W. Willow Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917” Be sure to indicate the purpose for your gift.

Wills, Trusts, and Estate Planning

Almost every household can benefit from having a will or trust, regardless of your financial situation or season of life. It is never too early (or too late) to make a plan that will ensure your wishes are carried out and your loved ones are well cared for after you are gone. Perhaps most importantly, your plan can be a way to honor God with the assets He has given you to make a lasting impact for eternity. GLCC has partnered with Financial Planning Ministry to assist you in creating these planning documents with no out-of-pocket expense to you.

Gifts from Retirement Accounts

The Internal Revenue Service allows IRA owners age 70 1/2 or over to transfer up to $111,000 to charity tax-free each year. These transfers, known as qualified charitable distributions (QCD), offer eligible older Americans a great way to easily give to charity before the end of the year. Moreover, for those who are at least 73, QCDs count toward the IRA owner’s required minimum distribution for the year.

How to set up a QCD:

1. Contact your IRA trustee so that have enough time to make the transaction for you.
2. Be sure that the distribution is paid directly from the IRA to the Charity. (If the distribution is paid to the owner, it does not qualify as a QCD and you will pay taxes.)

Annuities

If you’re uncomfortable letting your future retirement dollars ride the ups and downs of the stock and bond markets, and you’d also like to support GLCC, you may be interested in a Charitable Gift Annuity.

A charitable gift annuity works like this: You donate assets which we reinvest. We guarantee to pay you a fixed income for life. The funds are then available for our use.

A charitable gift annuity is particularly attractive because the rates (based on your age) typically produce higher income than the yields from investments in the stock and bond markets. When this aspect is combined with partially tax-free income, the effective rate of return is even higher.

Employer Matching Gifts

You or your spouse may work for a company that matches its employees’ gifts to higher education. This program is a great way to double or even triple your gift to GLCC. Each year, GLCC benefits from many corporate contributions initiated by company employees. Some companies will match gifts made by non-employee directors of the company, retired employees or widows or widowers of retired employees.

Stock Gifts

Donating appreciated stocks to GLCC can provide significant tax advantages, especially if you have held the securities for more than a year. This method is often more beneficial than donating the cash equivalent, as it allows you to avoid capital gains tax while still receiving a deduction for the stock’s full fair market value.

Property

Real estate is a valuable asset and a sound investment that can provide property owners with immeasurable benefits. Whether it’s a home, land or a vacation cottage, most of us own property. A gift of real estate to GLCC turns your investment into an investment for the future.

Insurance Beneficiary

When you first bought your life insurance policies, you obviously felt a need for them. Perhaps you don’t need all that coverage today, yet you still have those policies. If you’re thinking about a contribution to GLCC, naming the College the beneficiary of your life insurance could be a sensible as well as generous gift.

Areas to Support

General Fund

Gifts to the General Fund provide the greatest flexibility, allowing us to meet planned needs and seize new opportunities as they arise during the year. From strengthening academic programs to enhancing campus life, your support ensures that students receive a valuable education in a quality environment. Every gift helps sustain the mission of the College today and into the future.

Log Cabin Society

GLCC began in a log cabin in Vestaburg, Michigan at Rock Lake Christian Assembly in 1949. Since then, students have been trained to serve in the ministry and in the marketplace as Kingdom Workers. There is a vital need to continue the mission of training students to be servant-leaders for the church and world. Your sustainable gift will continue the legacy that began so many years ago.

The Log Cabin Society is made up of members who commit to sustaining the mission of Great Lakes Christian College with multi-level gifts (starting at $5,000) made over a period of five years.

Join the Log Cabin Society today.

Scholarships

Scholarship support opens doors for students who might not otherwise be able to attend and helps students return to continue their education without worry about finances. Your gift eases the financial burden for families and makes Christian education accessible to a wider range of students. By investing in scholarships, you are investing directly in the lives and futures of our students and helping the College in its mission to produce servant-leaders for the church and world.

Doty Fund

This fund was established in honor of Dr. Brant Lee Doty. Dr. Doty was a humble servant who served Great Lakes Christian College since 1953 as professor, Academic Dean and Chancellor. His dedication to Christian higher education was evident in the way he lived his life until his death in January 1998. The Doty Fund is designed to meet the needs of the student and the College. The first and primary use of the Doty Fund monies must be that of serving the needs of a Presidential Scholarship program. After all such scholarship program needs are met each semester, any remaining monies from the usable portion of the fund may be used by the College Administration as best serves the College mission.

Endowment

The College’s endowment is a fund made up of financial gifts from donors where the principal amount is preserved indefinitely while a portion of the generated investment earnings, such as interest or dividends, is used for specific purposes defined by the donors. This structure creates a sustainable and perpetual source of income and contributes to the long-term financial stability of the College.

Memorial and Tribute Gifts

A tribute gift is a meaningful way to convey sympathy to the bereaved, memorialized a loved one, commemorate a special occasion, or honor someone special with a gift to Great Lakes Christian College. Making a gift in this way shows your appreciation for the impact they have or had on your life. Any gift can be made “in memory” of or “in honor” of someone and we will notify the person or family of your kindness and thoughtfulness if we are supplied with a name and address.
