Spiritual Life
A Community Rooted in Faith
At Great Lakes Christian College, spiritual growth is at the heart of the student experience. We seek to help every student deepen their faith, understand their role in God’s Kingdom, and grow through community, worship, and discipleship.
We encourage students to engage in personal spiritual development alongside communal practices such as prayer, worship, discussion, and fellowship. Students are invited to cultivate their relationship with God both individually and within the campus community.
Chapel
Chapel is the spiritual centerpiece of GLCC. Students receive .75 academic credits per semester for attending Chapel (Tuesdays at 11 a.m.) and Small Groups (Fridays at 11 a.m.). To receive a satisfactory grade, students must attend at least 75% of the combined sessions.
Small Groups
Small Groups meet every Friday and provide an intimate setting for deeper discussion, fellowship, and spiritual encouragement. Students select their preferred group at the start of each semester, with details announced by the Dean of Students.
Local Church Involvement
GLCC strongly encourages students to be active in a local church. The college partners with many congregations in the Lansing area—both Christian Churches/Churches of Christ and other denominations—so students can find a church home that fits them.
Outreach Ministries
Full-time students complete 15 hours of community or ministry service per semester, receiving a Satisfactory grade upon completion. This requirement aligns with GLCC’s commitment to biblical higher education and service. Opportunities include church ministries, nonprofits, and community programs.
Weeks of Service
Each spring, GLCC pauses classes for two dedicated Weeks of Outreach, allowing students to serve on short-term mission trips and ministry projects that count toward their service requirement.
